John C. Edwards, son of Center J. EDWARDS & Mary J. CHOATE, was born June 21, 1853, in Ashe Co., NC, and died Feb. 20, 1890, in Alleghany Co., NC. He married Mary Ellen Cheek, daughter of Henderson CHEEK & Lucy BRYAN, Nov. 19, 1876, in Alleghany Co., NC. She was born Oct. 13, 1857, in Ashe Co., NC, and died Jan. 26, 1941, in Alleghany Co., NC. She married (2nd) Hiram S. Edwards in 1891. John and Mary Edwards are buried in the Center Edwards Cemetery, located off Hwy 21 near Sparta, Alleghany Co., NC.

Richard Luther EDWARDS; John Robert Edwards (1896), Hiram Odell Edwards (1898), William Bryan Edwards (1900), Grace Ellen Edwards (1904), infant (1905).

Notes

John C. Edwards, the oldest son of Center J. Edwards and Mary Jane Choate, died in 1890 at the age of only 37. His estate was probated in Alleghany Co., NC, in 1890 (NC Archives Box No. C.R.004.508.9; Alleghany Will Book A, p.104), and he is buried at the Center Edwards Cemetery off Hwy. 21 near Sparta, Alleghany Co., NC. (See Alleghany County Cemeteries Through 1986 pub. by the Alleghany Co. Hist-Gen. Society.)  Mary Ellen Cheek remarried in 1891 to Hiram S. Edwards, her deceased husband's uncle, whose wife had died only eight days before John C. Edwards.

Apr. 16, 1883. W.B. CHEEK assigned to J.C. EDWARDS a bond for sale of 86 ¼ acres on Little River adj. David LANDRETH & others & bounded by the line of a plat made by C.H. DOUGHTON on June 26, 1871. The bond was originally given by J.H. PARKS to A.J. RECTOR on June 24, 1874. It was assigned by A.J. RECTOR to W.B. CHEEK and assigned by W.B. CHEEK to J.C. EDWARDS. Proved Feb. 12, 1884, by A.J. RECTOR & W.B. CHEEK & by W.C. FIELDS from the handwriting of J.H. PARKS, he being dead. Reg. Sept. 2, 1884. (Alleghany DB 5:390.)
