Nov. 30, 1849 | [Transcriber's Note: this deed is actually dated Jan. 17, 1887, but the land was originally sold to George T. REEVES on Nov. 30, 1849. George T. REEVES died in 1881.] In the Spring term 1849, the Court of Equity of Ashe County issued a decree in a suit brought by the heirs of James MCMILLAN, directing the sale of 300 acres on the north side of Bakers Ridge known as the BROWN land. The late Alex. B. MCMILLAN was appointed commissioner for the sale. On Nov. 30, 1849, George T. REEVES purchased the land for $66. The comm'r [MCMILLAN] collected the money & distributed it to the claimants, but died before making title to the purchaser [REEVES]. George T. REEVES is now dead & in his last will & testament devised the land to L.J. WILKERSON, Mrs. M.J. EDWARDS, & Rufus CAUDILL. Therefore the Ashe County Superior Court, successor of the Court of Equity, conveys the land to them by this deed, dated Jan. 18, 1887. Signed: James M.
