Major Finley Joines, son of Ezekiel JOINES & Pheraby CAUDILL, was born May 1, 1833, in Wilkes Co., NC, and died Dec. 28, 1917, in Alleghany Co., NC. He married Mary "Mollie" Edwards, daughter of Solomon Osborne EDWARDS, Sr., & Mazy MCMILLAN. She was born May 7, 1850, in Ashe Co., NC, and died Nov. 22, 1918, in Alleghany Co., NC. Major F. and Mollie Edwards Joines are buried at the Antioch Primitive Baptist Church in Alleghany Co., NC.

ajor Finley Joines was a well-educated man who was a
teacher and a surveyor in Alleghany County. According to
Alleghany County Heritage (1983), p.280, Major often traveled
on horseback to teach children who could not otherwise attend
school.

Note: the above deed involves some of the many heirs of A.B. MCMILLAN who died childless in Alleghany County in 1864, leaving a large estate. His heirs included his neice, Mazy McMillan (wife of Solomon O. Edwards, Sr.), who was the mother of Mollie Edwards who married M.F. Joines.
